Substitute Teacher Aides for 2026-2027

As a substitute, you will have the flexibility to choose your work availability while making a direct, meaningful impact on students' daily educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Support: Assist classroom teachers with carrying out non-instructional daily activities and managing classroom routines.

  • Student Guidance: Provide 1:1 or small-group behavioral, social, and functional support to students, including students with special needs, as directed by the teacher or district staff.

  • Supervision: Supervise students during non-classroom times, including lunch, recess, hallway transitions, arrival/dismissal, and field trips.

  • Material Preparation: Help prepare classroom materials, set up learning centers, and maintain an organized, safe environment.

  • Personal Care Support: Assist individual students with personal care, physical mobility, or specialized equipment needs when required.

  • Professional Conduct: Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and district matters in compliance with FERPA and district policy.

Substitute Food Service Workers-2026-2027

Mechanicville City School District is seeking dependable, energetic, and community-minded individuals to join our Food Service Department as a Substitute Food Service Helper.

This is an ideal role for parents, retirees, college students, or anyone seeking a flexible schedule that matches the public school calendar- no nights, weekends, or holidays required!

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Assist in basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, wrapping, and portioning menu items.

  • Meal Service: Serve nutritious, balanced breakfast and lunch meals to students and staff in a friendly, welcoming environment.

  • Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation: Wash dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils; clean and sanitize prep counters, serving lines, and dining area tables.

  • POS / Register Operation: Operate the cafeteria Point of Sale (POS) register during meal service times (training provided).

  • Inventory & Restocking: Help unload, stock, and organize food supplies and paper goods according to food safety guidelines.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health, hygiene, and safety guidelines (HACCP) established by NYS and local health departments.

The Substitute School Nurse will be responsible for providing temporary health services to students and staff in the absence of the regular school nurse. This role involves responding to medical emergencies, administering medications, and maintaining a healthy school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide temporary nursing care to students, including assessing, treating, and managing medical conditions as needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician, following school district policies.
  • Respond to emergencies, injuries, and accidents, providing first aid or medical care as required.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students, including documenting treatments and incidents.
  • Support students with special health needs or chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, allergies, diabetes) during the nurse's absence.

Mechanicville City School District is continuously seeking dedicated, compassionate, and energetic Teacher Assistants to join our instructional team on an as-needed basis.

Teacher Assistants play a vital role in our classrooms by working under the general supervision of certified teachers to provide direct instructional support, foster positive behavior, and help create an inclusive, engaging learning environment for students of all abilities across our district.

  • Prior experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or therapeutic setting.
