Elementary Special Education Teacher

The Mechanicville School District is accepting applications for a probationary special education teacher position at the elementary level. 

Job responsibilities and expectations include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with the general education teacher to plan instruction for all students in the classroom, paying particular attention to the specially designed instructional needs of students with disabilities.
  • Contribute to and plan lessons that align with the state standards and designated curriculum framework. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure students are being exposed to academic rigor. 
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, related service providers, parents, and community providers to understand and meet the needs of students.
  • Analyze multiple data sets to inform instruction and decisions regarding educational programming.
  • Progress monitor IEP goals by providing differentiated instruction, delivering interventions with fidelity, collecting and analyzing data, and monitoring students’ response to the interventions.
  • Follow all district policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to our school and students.
  • Manage student behavior through de-escalation strategies and positive behavioral supports.

Reading Specialist .5

The Mechanicville School District is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered Part-Time Reading Specialist (.5) to provide evidence-based literacy instruction for students requiring targeted reading intervention. The successful candidate will have specialized training in the Wilson Reading System® and/or Orton-Gillingham approach and a strong commitment to helping students develop foundational literacy skills and reading confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group reading intervention using structured literacy methodologies.
  • Deliver explicit, systematic, multisensory reading instruction aligned with students' individual learning needs.
  • Utilize Wilson Reading System and/or Orton-Gillingham instructional practices with fidelity.
  • Assess student reading abilities and monitor progress through ongoing data collection.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, intervention teams, and administrators to support student achievement.
  • Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families and school personnel.
  • Assist in developing intervention plans and recommend instructional strategies.
  • Stay current with best practices in literacy instruction and intervention.

Salary and Schedule

  • Part-time position
  • Salary commensurate with experience and in accordance with the district's negotiated agreement or Board-approved rate.
  • Schedule to be determined based on student needs and district programming.
Spanish Teacher 7-12 Long Term Substitute

Mechanicville City School District is looking to hire a Long Term Substitute Spanish Teacher 7-12 for our high school to commence on/about October 1, 2026, and end on/about November 9, 2026.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about language learning, committed to fostering student growth in the Spanish language, and dedicated to creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment. This role involves teaching Spanish to students in middle and high school, developing engaging lesson plans, and creating opportunities for students to build their language skills both in and outside the classroom.

Substitute Teachers Needed for 2026-2027

Key Responsibilities

  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying grade levels.

  • Leave a detailed summary of daily accomplishments, student progress, and any behavioral notes for the returning classroom teacher.

  • Adhere to all district policies, school guidelines, and New York State Education Department (NYSED) protocols.
