Job Description

Position Title: School Psychologist (Anticipated)- Elementary School

Reports To:  Director of Student Support Services / Building Principal
Work Year:  10-month (with possible summer responsibilities)
Certification: NYS Permanent or Provisional Certification as a School Psychologist

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations (cognitive, academic, social-emotional, behavioral, adaptive) for initial and reevaluations in accordance with IDEA and NYSED regulations.

  • Prepare clear, legally compliant evaluation reports with recommendations tailored to student needs.

  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and contribute to Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).

Consultation and Collaboration

  • Consult with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and parents regarding student performance, interventions, and academic/behavioral supports.

  • Serve as a key member of the CSE, MTSS, and building-based support teams.

  • Participate in developing IEPs and 504 Plans, ensuring goals and supports are data-driven and appropriate.

Intervention and Support

  • Provide individual or group counseling for students with social-emotional, behavioral, or mental-health needs.

  • Develop and assist in implementing evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions within an MTSS/RTI framework.

  • Support crisis intervention, risk assessments, and safety planning in collaboration with district personnel.

  • Deliver preventive programs related to social-emotional learning, executive functioning, school climate, and mental health awareness.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with NYSED regulations, FERPA, and district policies.

  • Complete CSE/504 paperwork, progress notes, and parent communications according to required timelines.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with community agencies and provide referrals when appropriate.

  • Support the development of safe, inclusive, and trauma-sensitive school environments.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • NYS Certification as a School Psychologist (Provisional or Permanent).

  • Master’s Degree or higher in School Psychology from an accredited program.

  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and NYSED Part 200 regulations.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a public-school setting.

  • Familiarity with MTSS/RTI frameworks.

  • Training in crisis response or therapeutic interventions.
