Job Description

The Mechanicville City School District is seeking a full-time Microcomputer Technician, effective ASAP.

This is a technical position focused on adapting microcomputers to department and user needs. Working with various departments throughout the District as needed, the incumbent works on problem definition to implementation and support for the system design. The work includes the application of both hardware and software to meet the specific needs of the department. Does related work as required.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

  • Good knowledge of the principles, techniques and concepts utilized in microcomputer system analysis;

  • Good knowledge of microcomputer capacities, programming principles, techniques and concepts;

  • Good knowledge of the operation and utilization of word processing equipment;

  • Good knowledge of office technology and procedures;

  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of office automation;

  • Ability to perform close detailed work;

  • Ability to train others in the operation of microcomputer and word processing equipment;

  • The ability to prepare written materials such as documentation for programs and system configuration. Memoranda, and progress reports;

  • Ability to follow complex written oral instructions;

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

(A) Graduation from a New York State registered two-year college university with an Associate's of Science in Computer Science or related field; 

OR

(B) Two years of full-time paid experience in personal computer system analysis and/or adapting software for users; OR

(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).

Notice to Candidates:

This vacancy will be filled by a certified list provided by Mechanicville City Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law.

A fingerprint supported criminal history background check is required by law for employment in New York State schools.
